Do You Really Need a Wedding Website?

The Barn at Belle Hills • September 5, 2023

The wedding industry has changed drastically over the last fifteen years. New trends have emerged, receptions have gotten more extravagant, and technology has impacted the wedding planning process in ways we could have never imagined. Ten years ago, nobody had heard of a wedding website. These days, every couple has one. So what are they, and do you really need one?

What is a wedding website?

If you’ve scrolled through wedding planning videos on social media for more than five minutes, you’ve probably heard of a wedding website. Many modern couples create a free website, often supported by wedding planning software, to conduct RSVPs, make important announcements, and share their wedding registry.

If put together correctly, it can be a streamlined method of communication between the couple and their guests. Tech-savvy couples will love customizing their site to suit their needs and portray their wedding aesthetic. Guests will love finding all the information they need in one easy-to-find location. Plus, many website hosts allow you to set your page to private - meaning only the people on your guest list can access your wedding website.

A wedding website is a fantastic tool. If you have the skills to put one together - using a customizable template or building it from scratch - then we suggest you add it to your wedding planning to-do list.

What to include on your wedding website

The beauty of your site is that it can offer as much (or as little) information as you would like! Some couples put hours of work into their site and design multiple pages with interactive features. Other couples stick to a basic layout and share the most crucial information their guests need. Whichever category you fall under, take a moment to determine what you want your site to include. Here are a few of our favorite ideas:

Basic Wedding Information

We highly recommend offering the most important details about your wedding on an easy-to-find portion of your site. These could include:

  • Wedding date and time
  • Ceremony and reception location(s)
  • Dress code

While your guests should already have these details from their invitations, providing more than one way to access essential information is always a good idea.

About the Couple

Share what makes your love unique by detailing the journey of your relationship. How did you meet? What was your first date? How did you know they were the one? What is your proposal story? Your wedding is your time to share everything that makes your relationship unique. Honor your special bond by putting it in words for your loved ones to read.

Wedding Registry

Make it easier for your guests to buy your wedding present by including your wedding registries and wish lists in one shared space. It’s common for couples to be registered with multiple stores. Your guests will love being able to find all of your lists in one place.
